Year 4, week 15: needle in a haystack

There’s a cartoon in which the a very worried and tired looking lawyer is in a room surrounded by law books from floor to ceiling and he says “You know, the worst of it is that I know the answer’s in here somewhere.”

It’s just how I feel as I set about trying to find the answer to a particularly obscure point of law for tomorrow’s case.

Dinah Rose QC spoke last night at Inner Temple and at one point told a story of a case in which she and her juniors trawled through many bundles of dense actuarial evidence for just 2 or 3 minute points they might be able to use. The difference between winning and losing is stamina and sheer will I suppose!
