Consideration has been given for the editing and publishing of this post

When it comes to legal services, Notaries do not hold a position where they can provide any type of advice, legally speaking, or prepare your legal documents. If they are caught doing this, they can be charged with a crime. Many Immigration lawyer Toronto firms and other types of lawyers use notaries for a variety of reasons.  The following information will help you to fully understand the role of a notary and what services they offer.

What is a Notary?

A person working as a notary public is an office that has been appointed and then has been commissioned by the Governor and who has the primary function of providing specific, limited duties, as outlined by the area’s law. Some of the duties they offer include oath administration, certified copies of documents, deed acknowledgment and a number of other tasks. Essentially, the main duties of notaries are to offer a state agent, or impartial party, who serves as a witness for signatures. What this means that is unless the notary has a title of a notary at law or civil law notary, they will not be allowed, legally speaking, to offer any legal advice.

Who is Eligible to Become a Notary?

While there are a number of people who will be eligible to hold this position, you should determine if you meet the criteria ahead of time. You will also need to ensure that you do not attempt to offer any illegal services. Before you actually engage in this business, you need to have the answers for the questions and considerations that are here.

Types of Services Provided by Notaries

The services of a notary can be necessary for a number of different reasons, which is why you will typically find someone in this position in a number of different working environments, including: government offices, medical facilities and schools. The role they offer is crucial for the actual day to day operation of a number of industries and offices. Some other situations where a notary’s services may be needed is if you are facing bankruptcy or some type of immigration issue. Keep in mind, this will not be for offering legal advice, but instead handling the authentication of the various documents and other services.

Since a notary is in a position of trust, they are held to a higher standard than other types of people. If a notary violates this trust and the public they are serving is harmed, then they can face serious consequences.
