Higgs boson for lawyers

“Don’t you just love all this chat about the Higgs boson particle?” said TheBusker today. “Apparently, it’s the invisible glue which keeps the whole universe together,” said TheCreep.

“I’d say that the invisible glue which keeps the whole universe together is in fact the legalese dreamt up by our esteemed profession,” said UpTights.

“Yes, a world without small print really would be a world at risk of crumbling in on itself,” smiled HeadofChambers.

“You might joke,” said TheCreep, “but without rules, regulations, contracts and all the other things lawyers produce, the world would be…”

“…bliss,” said TheBusker.

“…anarchy,” finished TheCreep.

“Well I’d suggest that it’s the invisible meanderings of the judicial mind which in fact hold everything together. Thoughts from deciding what to have for lunch to finding a barrister particularly annoying. They all go into the mix before producing the learned judgements which stitch our world together.”

“It’s money, money, money,” said Teflon. “That’s the real Higgs boson that keeps everything ticking over.”

“Money and fear,” said HeadClerk. “The only things that really matter.”

“I think it’s more the dirty practises under the surface of society that keep everything together,” said OldSmoothie. “The backhanders and the little compromises which bond you together in mutual silence.”

“I’d suggest it’s quite the opposite,” said OldRuin. “It’s the unseen little acts of kindness which keep people together. The small things that people always remember. Love, that’s the Higgs boson for me.”
