Year 3, week 10: OldFilth

There’s a circuit judge I know who’s nickname is OldFilth and it has nothing to do with either the excellent book of that name or the ‘Failed In London, Try Hong Kong’ thing. Instead it’s due to his notorious reputation with the ladies. Such is the case that it has been said that there are only three female QCs at the family law bar who have not at least been propositioned by him in one form or another (a survey having once been unofficially carried out at a Family Law Bar Association drinks party). So it came as no surprise when I heard that when he attended a dinner recently for some student lawyers, he apparently said to the host as he looked around the room: “I hate [and then he used the word Gordon Ramsay has done so much to polularise] students.” According to the account I was given, he then reflected on this and as he put his head down to dig into his Duck a l’Orange he muttered to himself: “Still, it’s better than nothing, I suppose.”
