Year 2, week 1: GoodOldRuin

OldRuin was in chambers early today.

‘Very many congratulations BabyB.  Much deserved if I may say so.  I know they don’t like us doing this but let me shake your hand and formally welcome you to chambers.  And of course to this room.’

‘Thank you OldRuin.  And all the more so for putting in a good word.’

‘Oh.  They mentioned that, did they?  I’d take it with a pinch of salt if I were you.  They picked you because they think you’ll be a good barrister.  Something, for what it’s worth, that I also happen to believe.’

Then I got another of his enigmatic little phrases,

‘I know you’ve had a few difficulties this last year and perhaps even made a few mistakes.’  He hesitated and gave a gently knowing look.  ‘Don’t be too hard on yourself, BabyB.  We’re all learning.  And making mistakes.  It’s what we do.  Right up to our last breath.’

This is intriguing. What secrets does OldRuin have? I can’t wait to find out!
